Pharmacy First – New Minor Illness Service provided by your local Pharmacy

The initiative – which started  1st December 2016 – highlights the quickest and easiest way to get advice, treatment with medicines, if needed, for a range of minor health conditions at local community pharmacists. Visit your pharmacy first.

Following an assessment at a participating pharmacy people who do not pay NHS prescription charges may be offered medicine, at no cost to the patient. And anyone who pays for prescriptions should find the cost of medicine is much less than a prescription charge.

Health conditions covered include:

  • athlete’s foot
  • bacterial conjunctivitis
  • constipation
  • dental pain
  • diarrhoea
  • earache
  • haemorrhoids
  • hay fever
  • head lice
  • insect bites/stings
  • sore throat
  • teething
  • temperature/fever
  • threadworms
  • thrush.
